You can use a lot of different things for smoking, in some areas they even use peatmoss. However, I am always watching out for:
- no pine
- no pressure treated
- no plywood
Any shreddings which include even some leaves are fine. I try to approach tree service people in the area when I see that they prune or cut down anything but pine or spruce trees. A mix of fine saw dust and larger wood shreddings from branches are all fine.
